Professional Background

Early Roots in Engure

Andris grew up in Rīga but spent summers with his grandfather in Engure, where he first became fascinated with the region's logging heritage and forest ecosystems. Those early years exploring the coastline and abandoned logging roads shaped his lifelong passion for understanding how landscapes tell stories. He'd spend hours mapping trails on hand-drawn charts, never imagining those childhood sketches would eventually become the foundation for his professional work.

Education & Early Career

After completing his degree in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of Latvia in 2008, Andris spent five years with the Latvian Tourism Development Agency. His fieldwork focused on rural infrastructure and outdoor access routes — work that taught him the technical side of route planning. But it was the conversations with local communities that stuck with him. He learned what people actually wanted from their countryside, not what planners thought they should want.

The Shift to Cycling Routes

His transition to cycling route development came in 2013, almost by accident. A friend asked him to help document some old logging roads that were becoming impassable. Andris saw potential where others saw overgrown paths. He started combining GPS data with historical land records, tracing routes that hadn't been officially mapped in decades. Within three years, he'd published his first comprehensive guide to forest cycling routes. The response was immediate — cyclists wanted what he'd found.

Current Work & Philosophy

Over the past decade, Andris has surveyed over 2,400 kilometers of forest trails and collaborated with local municipalities on trail maintenance and safety improvements. He's published detailed guides for more than 35 gravel cycling routes across Kurzeme and Zemgale regions. His methodical approach combines GPS data analysis, historical land-use research, and direct testing with cyclists of varying abilities. He's driven by a clear belief: well-designed cycling infrastructure should be inclusive and accessible to all age groups, particularly those seeking low-impact outdoor activities. At brindlemoor Solutions SIA, he leads the cycling content division with this philosophy at its core.
